In 2016 I was commissioned to create a verbatim theatre experience exploring the notions of ‘home’ for participants living with dementia. Working alongside residents of Crowood and Crosshills in Burnley I recorded, developed and created ‘Home Is A Journey’. The bespoke theatre piece was played back to participants, their families and their carers and delivered in ‘The Livingroom’ space at Burnley Mechanics. It was bolstered by live music drawn from the original interviews.
‘It was very moving, I had tears in my eyes more than once’ Rachel Hawthorne Arts Engagement officer, Burnley Mechanics Theatre.
